Mining profitability: ZEC vs BTC
What one of the newest ASIC miners for each coin would earn today at the current difficulty, price and fees. Both machines are the manufacturer's latest-generation air-cooled flagships, so the two columns compare like for like.

Top miners
Miners are grouped by the payout address that receives each block's reward. Names are self-reported: text the miner writes into its own block (the coinbase message), shown only when it appears in most of that address's blocks. AtlasZEC doesn't verify who owns an address.

How Zcash mining works
⛏ Proof of work
Miners race to solve an Equihash puzzle. The first to find a valid solution adds the next block and earns its reward. Hashrate is measured in solutions per second (Sol/s).
⏱ 75-second blocks
Zcash targets one block every 75 seconds (every 25 seconds from the NU7 upgrade at block #3,543,405). After each block the network nudges the difficulty up or down, so block times stay steady as miners come and go.
💰 Block rewards
Each block creates new ZEC. Most goes to the miner along with the transaction fees; a share funds Zcash development through the dev-fund lockbox and community grants.
✂️ Halvings
About every 4 years the new-coin reward is cut in half, which slows new supply until the cap of 21 million ZEC is reached. That's 1,680,000 blocks at 75 seconds, or 5,040,000 blocks at 25 seconds after the NU7 upgrade.
