Shielded pools

Zcash's shielded pools

How much ZEC is held privately, pool by pool, and how it moves in and out. Balances are the exact figures our own Zebra node reports for every block. Amounts inside the pools stay private: only what enters and leaves is public.

The four pools

Shielded supply over time

ZEC in each pool

Stacked: the top edge is all shielded ZEC.

Share of all ZEC that is shielded

Shielded ZEC ÷ all ZEC in existence.

Flows and private activity

Net change in each pool

Per day. Above zero, the pool grew; below, it shrank.

Fully shielded share of transactions

Transactions with no transparent inputs or outputs at all (mining rewards excluded).

Shielding and deshielding

ZEC moving between transparent addresses and the shielded pools. These amounts are public by design: the transparent side of the transaction shows them.

🔒 What stays private

Inside a shielded pool, the sender, receiver and amount of every payment are encrypted. Nobody, including AtlasZEC, can see who holds what. Only the total in each pool is public.

🔀 Why there are several pools

Each pool is a generation of Zcash's privacy technology: Sprout (2016), Sapling (2018), Orchard (2022) and Ironwood. Newer pools are faster and safer, and wallets move funds forward over time.

🚪 Sprout only shrinks

Since the Canopy upgrade (2020), Sprout no longer accepts deposits. Funds can only leave it, so its balance can only go down.

🧮 Where the numbers come from

Pool balances are reported by our own Zebra node for every block. Flows and labels come from each transaction's own structure. Nothing here guesses who sent what or links transactions together.
